American Haris Suleman Who Was Circling Globe In Plane Dies In Crash

American teenager Haris Suleman (17), who attempted to circle the globe in a single-engine aircraft in 30 days and made a pit stop in Malaysia, has died in a crash.
Fox News reported that the plane flown by the 17-year-old crashed into the Pacific Ocean shortly after taking off from Pago Pago in American Samoa on Wednesday. Search and rescue authorities were still looking for his father Babar Suleman, who was also on board the plane. Haris and Babar had stopped over at Subang Airport on July 11, their ninth stop, after a seven-hour flight from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Haris Suleman also wanted to help raise funds for The Citizens Foundation, a non-profit organisation in Pakistan which builds and operates schools for the less fortunate children in that country.

TransAsia Plane ATR 72 Crashes On Landing In Taiwan, 48 Dead

The plane that crashed was an ATR-72 TransAsia Airways aircraft flying from Taiwan's southern city of Kaohsiung to Penghu, a popular tourist destination in the Taiwan Strait.
It was Taiwan's first fatal air crash in more than a decade and came as Typhoon Matmo struck, bringing torrential rain and high wind.
The plane crashed on its second attempt to land at the airport. It lost contact with controllers after telling them it was going around again.
The aircraft then came down in Xixi village outside the airport.
"I heard a loud bang," TV station TBS quoted a local resident as saying. "I thought it was thunder, and then I heard another bang and I saw a fireball not far away from my house."
Official said visibility at the time of the crash was 1,600m (one mile) and within acceptable standards for landing, despite the storm.
Reports from Taiwan suggested officials were looking for one person who might have been in residential buildings hit by the plane as it crashed.
TransAsia, a private airline, flies domestic routes in Taiwan and international routes in North and South-East Asia.
It has apologised and says it will compensate relatives of those on board.
This is Taiwan's worst aviation disaster since May 2002, when a China Airlines flight from Taipei to Hong Kong crashed near Penghu, killing all 225 on board.
The ATR 72 turboprop aircraft departed from the southern municipality of Kaohsiung at 17:43 local time (09:43 GMT), but lost contact with controllers at 19:06, CNA said, citing the Civil Aeronautics Administration.
TransAsia Airways' General Manager Hsu Yi-Tsung has tearfully apologised for the accident, the Central News Agency reported, pledging to spare no effort in the rescue operation and to transport relatives of passengers on the flight to Magong on Thursday morning.
Earlier on Wednesday, Taiwan was battered by strong winds and rain from a tropical storm, Typhoon Matmo.
However, an official at the Civil Aeronautics Administration told that bad weather at the time of the crash did not exceed international regulations for landing.
Typhoon Matmo had caused many flights to be cancelled but the land warning was lifted around 17:30 local time, around the time the plane took off.

Indian American CEO Shailesh Sha Convicted For Stock Fraud

The Indian-American CEO of two publicly-traded companies in the US, Shailesh Shah, was convicted on charges that he paid kickbacks in return for purchases of his companies’ stock.
Shah, 48, of Chino, Calif., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard G. Stearns to two counts of mail fraud and two counts of wire fraud, according to a press release issued by the FBI. His sentencing is scheduled for October 23 of this year.
Shah was the President and Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of SOHM, Inc. and Costas, Inc. He agreed to pay secret kickbacks to an investment fund representative in exchange for having the investment fund buy stock in these two companies. The kickbacks were concealed through the use of sham consulting agreements and other fraudulent documents. In actuality, however, and unbeknownst to Shah, the purported investment fund representative was an undercover FBI agent.
Apart from Shailesh Shah, also charged in May was Sandip Shah, 40, in an indictment with nine counts of wire fraud. Sandip Shah is also from Chino, California, and was previously arrested on February 27th of this year.
Sandip Shah was in the business of promoting penny stocks and assisting public companies in finding sources of funding. He agreed to introduce the investment fund representative to executives of publicly traded companies so that those executives could enter into the kickback arrangement. In exchange for the introductions and for facilitating the kickback arrangements as they continued, Sandip Shah accepted a portion of the kickbacks paid by the executives. What the defendants did not know was that the purported investment fund representative was actually an undercover agent.
The plea by Shailesh Shah follows a lengthy investigation focusing on preventing fraud in the microcap stock markets. Microcap companies are small publicly-traded companies whose stock often trades at pennies per share.
Shah faces 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the gain or loss on each count.
This case was brought in coordination with President Barack Obama’s Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force, to wage an aggressive, coordinated and proactive effort to investigate and prosecute financial crimes.

Unknown Crooks Shot Down Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 In Ukraine War Zone, 298 Dead

What type of plane was it?
The crashed plane was a Boeing 777-200ER, the same model as that of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 - Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur

Aircraft: Boeing 777-200ER
Crew: 15
Passengers: 280
Left Amsterdam: 10:15 GMT
Lost contact: 14:15 GMT at 10,000m (33,000ft)
What Happened?
According to Malaysia Airlines, the plane departed Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport at 10:15 GMT (12:15 local time) on 17 July and was due to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 22:10 GMT (06:10 local time).
The airline lost contact four hours later at 14:15 GMT - 50km from the Russia-Ukraine border.
Footage later emerged of the crash site, and witnesses spoke of dozens of bodies on the ground.

The Route

Though Ukrainian military aircraft have been shot down over eastern Ukraine by rebels, and the area has been the scene of fierce fighting, the route taken by the Malaysian jet appears to have been subject to no flight restrictions, the International Air Transport Association, an industry group, said. Eurocontrol, a European air safety organization, said the plane apparently was flying at approximately 10,000 meters, which was authorized, although Ukrainian authorities had closed the airspace at lower altitudes.

What caused the crash?

Ukrainian government adviser Anton Herashchenko alleges that the plane was hit by a missile fired by a Buk launcher - a Russian-made, medium-range surface-to-air missile system.
Ukrainian authorities later release a recording they say is a conversation between pro-Russian militants admitting to shooting down the plane.
The US has said the plane was brought down by a missile, but it is unclear who fired it.
Separatist leader Alexander Borodai accused the Ukrainian government of downing the airliner itself.
"Apparently, it's a passenger airliner indeed, truly shot down by the Ukrainian air force," he told Russia's state-run Rossiya 24 TV broadcaster.
Both the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian rebels who have been fighting in the region have denied shooting it down.
